however, if you want more in-depth information, check this out: “The time of the setting that took place in A Painted House, was September of 1952. During this particular time in the book, it was said to be extremely hot. Every time you would go outside to do anything, you would end up getting sunburn. There happened to be a lot many rainy days during September heading on into October where the book ends. During this time, it would rain and not stop raining until the Chandler’s place was near flooding.
The place that took place in the book was a farm near Black Oak City in the Arkansas Delta. Luke lived with his parents and grandparents on a farm picking cotton for a living. The particular land that they rented was 80 acres and the land was sunk in where it was easy to flood, in which it did. The main events in the book take place in or around this city, because at this time, most people didn’t wander away from home unless they went off to join the military, go to work, or to visit family. They simply did no see a reason otherwise to leave.
The era of the book is the Korean War. The war was a conflict that lasted from 1950 to 1953 between North Korea, aided by China, and South Korea, aided by United Nations forces consisting primarily of U.S. troops (Dictionary, 2004). During this war, many US troops were being injured, mainly frostbit. Many were untreated due to the fact of how the battlefield was setup (VA, 2004). Many young boys listed to fight in the war, and many didn’t return home. Just like Luke’s brother, he was sent to fight in the Korean War.”

The book is set in 1952, in Arkansas, and involves the Korean war.
